Christian Missions

A Church exists through missions as a fire exists through burning. First Baptist is a Great Commission Church. We believe in, pray for, give to, and go serve in missions. Our mission involvement is listed below. Whether local, national, or around the world our members participate. Without apology we present Christ as the answer for our changing times.

Opportunities for mission involvement at First Baptist:

  • Mission Portion of Regular Offerings – The Great Commission gives our marching orders therefore we give of our monies. We give offerings to Baptist international mission causes. You may give to either the Lottie Moon Offering of the Southern Baptists or the Global Mission Offering of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Both are Great Commission Baptist sending agencies. You may also give to the Home Mission Offering through either agency. Additional mission offerings are given to our Tennessee Baptist Convention and the Nashville Baptist Association.
  • Local Missions – Teams of youth and adults go into the Fairview community to assist the elderly and needy with clean up and renovations to their homes. In 2008, members of First Baptist constructed a home in Fairview for a lady whose home was destroyed by a tornado.
  • Emergency Food Bank – First Baptist currently serves as a satellite location for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Nashville. The food bank serves those in the local area.
  • Individual Missions – Members of First Baptist volunteer in ministries such as Meals on Wheels, Christian Women’s Job Corp, disaster relief with the Red Cross, and short-term mission trips through the Tennessee Baptist Convention.
  • World Changer Projects: First Baptist has sent World Changer teams since 1992. This coed mission effort for youth sends teams to repair houses in underprivileged areas. Those returning from the trips say, “I think God has worked in my life even more than in the lives of those we helped.”
  • Woman’s Missionary Union

    - Women on Mission meet monthly to learn about mission opportunities as well as pray for, encourage and support mission efforts in the church. They participate in mission activities, help gather materials needed by missionaries and other ministries and give support to youth missions.

- Mission Friends is for preschoolers ages birth through kindergarten. They meet on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM. The primary objective of Mission Friends is to provide a strong foundation for preschoolers in a Christian and missions lifestyle. The classes provide developmentally appropriate missions learning experiences to help preschoolers become aware of God’s love and understand ways they can help others know about this good news!

- Girls in Action (GAs) is a comprehensive missions education program for girls in grades 1-6. It is offered on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM. Through participation in GA, girls grow in their knowledge, understanding and application of the Bible. They also learn from the example of missionaries and hand-on-mission action what it means to actively engage in ministering to others with the compassion of Christ.

- Acteens is a mission organization designed with the needs and interests of teenage girls in mind. Acteens offers an opportunity to grow in understanding God, yourself, and others. The Acteen group meets on Sundays at 5:00 PM.

- Royal Ambassadors (RAs) is Bible centered mission education for boys in grades 1-6. The groups meet on Wednesday at 6:30 PM. The RA Motto “We are Ambassadors for Christ” not only gives the organization its name, but also gives the boys and leaders a lifestyle goal. RAs participate in hand-on-mission activities, camping trips and other activities during the year.
